I got a private message about the monitor calibration tool I mentioned here.
The Pantone Huey. I feel responsible for having mentioned this piece of (censored expression here), and so I am posting this correction.
I returned the Huey to the vendor. After only one calibration it stopped working correctly, and produced a greenish cast.
I am now buying the Gretag Macbeth Eye-ONe Display 2 in its version by X-rite (206$ at B&H photo). Pantone has one, too, but I have the distinct feeling they are cutting corners in quality and didn't consider buying that version.
Other good calibration tools are the Monaco Optix Pro (about 300$) and the best is ColorEyes Display Pro (320$).
The Eye-One display 2 is excellent. It is on a professional level.
After my experience I would not recommend buying any sub-100$ calibration tool.
I generally found the Huey too basic. Better than nothing - if it works.
If you are a graphic artist or shoot digital photos or video, the above three devices are best. The Spyder2 Pro is not bad at all, but trails a bit behind.

The Gretag i1 has the best Mac software in my opinion. It is updated frequently and never gives me a moment of bugginess. Logitech should learn a thing or two from them.
The only issue I ever had was with trying to calibrate a PC display. Come to find out, just because a USB port is of the built-in variety doesn't mean that it provides enough power to the bus. If you run into errors on the PC side of things, plug the i1 in a good-quality powered hub and that might make all the difference (as it did to mine)

P.S.- yeah, the Huey is a cruel hoax pulled on the trusting consumer.

Just avoid Pantone.
The strange thing is: if you follow the trail from the X-rite, you land at the gretag-macbeth website. Even B&H has the X-rite, and not the gretag macbeth. It is possibly a rebranding issue, as many people cannot say "I want a gretag macbeth eye-one display 2" without getting out of breath.
Well, I hope I'll be getting the original gretag-macbeth software.
When you go to the only one really good color calibration tool review on the net...
http://www.drycreekphoto.com/Learn/m...tion_tools.htm
... and click on the gretag macbeth, you land at x-rite.
So far for confusing rebranding.

Update: X-rite bought gretag macbeth in 2006 for 280 million Dollars.
This is why X-rite and gretag macbeth is the same.
