I am aware of the fact that there are alot of users here on MacNN that own 21 inch or 22 inch displays here. The ones that seem to be popular are the displays that are naturally flat. I want to here from the members here on MacNN that have one of these displays. When you post in this thread state why you like that display and why you believe it is the best one. If you have a picture of it that would be even better!

BTW I am looking into one myself and have my eyes on the Samsung synmaster 1200NF. Its a naturally flat 22 inch displays ahh its good..

Post away!!

Thanks,
Circa

I've got Sony's GDM-F500, which is the 21-inch, previously top of the line FD Trinitron monitor. (I got to spend my former employer's money to buy it, and when the site (voila.com) went offline the following year, they let me buy it for $1,000 less than they paid!) I'm fairly sure it's been replaced with a newer model, but this thing is FREAKIN AWESOME. I'll walk over my older 9500, which is hooked up to an AppleVision 1710AV (whose display isn't too shabby, either) and be bowled over by how amazingly CRISP the display is. It's a joy to use at 1600x1280. Color is beautiful, detail is incredible, and so on.

Caveat, though: I'm not a professional designer or anything. Still, I recall reading reviews (MacWorld, etc.) when this monitor came out, and the reviewers were in love with it, too. I can only imagine that in the time since this 1999 model's release, things have just gotten better.

(I'd still take a Cinema Display over it, though . . .)

I have the Dell P1110 which I believe is the equivalent to the Sony FD 21" monitor. In any case, it is absolutely awesome. If I could whack off the back of the tube, you would swear you were using a 21"digital flat panel. Sharp corner to corner, with exceptionally natural white point. Very impressive but like all 21" and 22" displays- they're monsters....watch that lower back when moving them around.

Oh and another thing, I feel that the Sony Trinitron based FD crt's are better than the NF natural flat used by manufact. like Mitsubishi and Samsung. We have a 22" Mitsubishi NF display here and it's kind of fuzzy along the edges and corners. Doesn't hold even color across the screen either.

I use a Dell 19" (trinitron) at work. Unfortunately it is normally hooked up to a POS Dell PeeThree. It looks great when I plug it into my Pismo.

I don't own one of those fine pieces of equipment, but I am in the market for one (or will be in a few months). I just read a review of a few monitors from Macworld. Here it is:
http://www.macworld.com/2001/04/reviews/monitors.html

The one that really caught my eye was the Philips! It shares the highest rating with the NEC. The Philips has got the NEC on price, resolution, technology (FD vs. NF - the difference is evident by the varying dot pitch), and physical size (though they have the same area, the NEC is physically bigger). However, the NEC supports DVI, and the Philips doesn't. I don't know enough about the technology to confidently say that one is better than the other, but if I were buying today, I'd go for that Philips.

IF ANYONE OWNS THIS PHILIPS MONITOR PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!!

THANKS!!!!

Same with the samsung, its almost identical to the mitsibushi (did I spell that right?) but its not as commen. Not one person has said a word about it yet.

I still do hope someone does.

What's "natural" flat? How would that differ from unnatural?

I have Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2020u (about 20.x") It's the second replacement for defective units that sometimes blacked out briefly. The hardware seems excellent, picture is sharp even at the corners, brightness good... Software doesn't work - after 18 months promising software controls they finally admitted that it would never happen for my model. So I push lots of buttons to make screen adjustments.

I recommend you always call tech support BEFORE buying an expensive product (unless you are very wealthy). Ask the sort of question that people here ask about. You'll save yourself a lot of grief. If everyone does this, the mfgrs will get the hint that they have to support their products or they won't sell.
