I recently started having problems mounting firewire drives on my Macbook Pro. At the same time, the icon for the mounted drive change to this. I haven't been able to test this with another drive enclosure, but it happens with different drives (in the same enclosure) and with different cables. Also, I have had problems mounting my iPod via firewire (but when it does mount it displays the usual iPod icon).

Does anyone know what's going on here?

I found that the icon changed from the old yellow to the one you show when I did the latest software update. Oddly enough, when I attach a second external drive (at the same time) it sometimes shows the old yellow icon and sometimes the blue & white one. Seems no change in anything but the appearance of the icon. No problems mounting, though. So, you apparently have some other problem -- but I don't think the icon is the problem.
