I'm looking to buy an internal Blu-Ray drive for my computer. The one and only thing i'm interested in is being able to watch Blu-Ray discs on my computer. As long as it can do that, I don't care about anything else. What is the cheapest thing I can get? Also, HDCP isn't an issue yet, is it?

$499 or $449 after 50MIR at Newegg
You are aware that there's no software for OS X to watch BluRay (or HD-DVD) with, right?
ICT (Image Constraint Token, requires degrading quality over unencrypted links) hasn't been enabled on any disks yet, but I think some of the software players are still requiring HDCP.

Well I plan to rip the discs to my hard drive, and then play the data directly in something like VLC. I've already been doing that, when I download HD movie rips. There's no HDCP problem then.

Why do you want a burner for this? Why not just a player?

Can a player hook up to my computer? ALL I want is a way to watch my movies in 1080p, on my 23" ACD. That's all I want.
And yes, i'm aware that a movie will be 25-50GB a piece. That's about $15 of storage space for each movie.

All the computer drives I've seen so far are burners...
I think a year or so ago there were read-only BluRay drives for thousands of dollars, but I haven't seen them lately.

So I don't get it. When is apple's software gonna support HD?
I guess i'll just wait until this scenario plays itself out:
1. Leopard gets released, with a new version of iDVD that supports HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.
2. Apple includes an option for a Blu-Ray Burner, in the Mac Pro's, and sells an upgrade kit seperetly.
3. Apple includes an option for an HDCP compatible Video Card.
4. Apple Sells HDCP displays.
