Hello !

Type of computer : ibook dual usb (first edition)

Operating system: Mac OS X 10.1.4

Software version : Retrospect Backup express 5.0.205, Silverkeeper 1.0 (LaCie), carbon copy cloner 1.2

Problem Description:
When using any of these three softwares to backup my hard drive, it starts copying ok but then after a while the software will suddenly hang and freeze and the firewire hard disc shows a constant red light (not working anymore).
I have to force quit the application or to pull the firewire plug out.

Is this a known problem ?
Is there a solution ?
Thanks for your help

QPS ships their drives a PC formatted for x-platform compatibility out of the box. Sometimes that causes problems, use Disk Utility to reformat it for Mac OS Standard.

Thanks for your answer. I actually did reformat the disk with disk utility in mac os format.

Other thing: I used Silverkeeper (Lacie) in os X and this problem DID NOT appear...

Conclusion: os X problem

I wrote to QPS support, they said I should change the drive. Probably won't do anything.

Someone else having this problem ?

Firewire has never been perfect in OS X, any release, at least on my TiBook/400. I continue to have problems with drives not mounting occasionally, hanging at startup, etc. This has happened with 3 different drive manufacturers, and also with custom-built drives. I keep hoping that Jaguar will finally fix the problem, but who knows?
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.
