Hi everyone I've had a problem with this HD for a long time. I bought a USB HD enclosure and put in a 200 GB IDE drive in it, and have been using it with my PC for several years. When I try connecting it to my MBP, the drive doesn't show up in Finder but I can see the drive in disk utility. It's formatted NTFS which Macs should still be able to read( but not write) yet it doesn't seem to mount. I figured perhaps something was wrong with the file system on the external so I copied all the data over, formatted with NTFS again, then copied the data back. My MBP still doesn't see the drive at all. Any ideas? Do I need to have a small Mac partition on the drive to be able to read it? The enclosure doesn't require any drivers for Windows or Mac, so it's not a driver issue.

I have a similar external HD with a 50/50 Mac/Windows partition and I'm able to see both volumes (not the same enclosure but similar in brand). Thanks!

Make sure that it's not just a silly Finder thing. Go to the Terminal and type

df -H

to see if the drive is appearing. Alternatively, there should be some indication of the mounting status of the drive in Disk Utility.

I tried that command in Terminal and the external didn't show up there. When I open up Disc Utility, it does show my external drive but it says that the drive isn't mounted. When I select the partition and click on "Mount", nothing happens (disc still doesn't show up in Finder).
