Have a G4 tower in my lab that suddenly would not power on. Called in the school's "Tech Guys" and they confirmed a dead power supply. I would like to replace the power supply, but am having little success finding parts. Any recommendations (preferably someone who takes purchase orders)?

1. Try replacing the PRAM battery
2. Replacement power supplies for G4s are usually ridiculously expensive, if you're not scared of tinkering and modifying things a standard PC ATX power supply can be used.

Thanks...

I did try a different battery, as it is an older machine (5-6 years?). It was also one of the only machines in my lab (see sig) susceptible to kernel panics. Not sure the other battery was necessarily in better shape, but in any case, I don't have any indication that the tower is getting any power.

What is "ridiculously expensive"? Since I am not having to spend my own money in this case, it is not as much of an issue. I am happy to tinker, but would prefer some instructions on how to do so.

Thanks again...

Ridiculously expensive is like £150 - £200 for a PSU for a Quicksilver G4. I have a guide on how to perform the modification for a Quicksilver G4, it should also be applicable to other models if you can find the wiring pinout though.

What kind of G4 is it? I'm an IT guy for a school district, and our G4's are all starting to get to that age where their power supplies blow. We just cannibalize power supplies from other G4's with other issues.
