I'm finally getting down to the task to install a Seagate Barracusa 7200.10 250gb drive in an OK GEAR firewire enclosure.

Well, now - so the Seagate instructions on their website - I have to format it using the OSX install disc. The instructions are not clear (and actually only cover the ground for the drive being the only drive in the system).

What do I have to do with this install disc? How do I find the new drive?

And do I need drivers, too? (People mentioned this in the drive reviews).

Thanks (it's my first hard drive installation).

Forget all that stuff. Just plug the disk into your Mac. Open Disk Utility (in your Utilities folder) and format. Use the Erase tab.

Thanks!

Sigh of relief.

(I really wonder who puts all that strange info out on the web - I mean the one I mentioned in my original post)

I wonder too. It's so simple, just plug it in and format it. You don't need a special disk or drivers...must be Windows folks.

Same way on Windows... no drivers needed for a drive in a FW/USB enclosure. Just open up Disk Management and format it.
