Hello All. New here so I'm not sure if this is the ideal section. Please bear with me .
I finally bought a Mac Pro 2.66 last week. I haven't used a mac since os 8, so I'm still getting up to speed. Anyway, I have a windows (xp) machine connected to a Canon i9900 in another room. I've been trying to print to it through the network and have had absolutely no luck. This used to work without any set up on my old PC so I'm getting a bit frustrated.
I've done a fair amount of digging that eventually lead here:
Can't install Canon i9900 on USB server [Archive] - The macosxhints Forums
which makes me think the whole thing is hopeless. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I suspect your firewall on your Windows machine is too restrictive. Can you access the network shares on the Windows machines from your Mac? If not, disable the firewall on your Windows machine and try again.
I've had similar issues and Windows (or rather, a firewall which is too restrictive by default) was to blame (essentially it blocked all incoming connections even if they originated in the local network).

Thanks for the reply. I'll go ahead and try messing with the Windows firewall settings. Although I am able to access shared folders on 2 PCs in the house and am able to share my iTunes library without a problem.
I'm starting to think this might be a Canon thing. I've downloaded the latest drivers from their website but the make and model #s still don't appear as options during set up. I've also downloaded GIMP/Guten-PRINT. Still no luck.

Just in case anyone is having the same problem, I emailed Canon and they sent me back a reply saying that unfortunately they do not support cross-platform printing. I guess that's the official word.
Boo.

You could still get an external print server and connect the printer to the network directly. Then you can use the printer on both computers simultaneously.

Yeah I was thinking about that. Do you happen to have any recommendations? Thanks again for the reply.

We are thinking about buying a Canon to replace the Brother we have that is dying. Currently, I print wirelessly to the Brother, and my husband prints from his PC wired into the airport base. Can we accomplish something like this with a Canon? How would we go about this?
Thanks for any help!
