alrighty, i would like to get a new laptop with a budget of 2,300 to 2,400. tax on top is...ok i guess. haha i'm not sure how much i will have but its in that general area. i need a MBP so putting that in the equation (with and Ed discount) i need a external display with at least 1680 x 1050. I would love a Apple cinema 20" and i could, but i would like to know if any of you know of any displays with higher Res or cheaper price that would work.

PS keep in mind that i'm a mac user and am conscious of the look. i would love it to be a treat for the eyes(if at all possible). Danke

In terms of quality, Samsun's 22" monitors are great. The Samsung 225BW or newer 226BW monitors are sleek (minimalist look) and the display panels are nice and crisp. The 20" offerings (205BW, 206BW) are cheaper and have the same resolution. Most of the LCD screens I've seen have more than enough brightness to satisfy.

If you can spring for it, though, I'd recommend getting a 24" monitor. The increased resolution gives some very, very nice screen real estate.

MBP + 24" (1920x1200 HD) Dell LCD should fit in your budget. Option for ~95% of NTSC gamut on the Dell, which is better than the ~45% that the MBP's display supports.

looking at the specs, it looks like dell's displays are actually better. Are they really? apples 1:400 contrast vs Dells 1:800 contrast and they are cheaper.

I would love an Apple Cinema as well but if i can save 150-200$ and get a better(maybe not as beautiful) display i'm thinking dells are a good choice.

The first rule of display specs is that everyone lies.
The second rule of display specs is that everyone lies.
The third rule of display specs is that they're hard to measure consistently even with good intentions.

That said, the contrast on the Dell is probably higher, but not twice as high.
