With the fact that pre-Intel Apple laptops have difficult-to-upgrade hard drives, and none of the iMacs can take more than one drive, external drives are important to most Apple users.

Can we make a sticky on recommendations for all-in-one, ready-made external drives, plus recommended firewire enclosures and accompanying hard drives?

I only ask because people seem to ask about this a lot, and the answers rarely (if ever) change.

I agreee. There has been a rash of postings asking about external hard drive options. A sticky on this subject would help a lot of people out.

Keeping in mind that someone else posted about this today...

Who's the main mod for this subforum? I'll PM and see if we can't do this.

A. Buy an Oxford chipset enclosure and put a compatible hard drive in it.

Who on earth claimed Seagate was bad and that WD or Maxtor was better?!

You, me and everyone we know.

(In all honesty that was just from the top of my memory after the last HD thread, so don't take it too seriously.)

For a reliability/best list, simple do a google. Here's the first hit for me:

One of many HD reliability lists

You'll find that most people here will agree that Seagate is the best option, although I believe their newest 10,000 RPM SATA model doesn't work correctly with the Mac Pros.

But, yeah. I don't think many, including CharlesS, have said that Seagate is worse than Maxtor or WD.

This thread has become a mockery of itself surely? :sigh:
