My system is a Mac G5 os 10.3.2 and I'm using a Western Digital External HD with 250 GB, and it's exaclty one year old. The power shut off in my home and now the external drive won't mount.

I checked in the utilities menu and the computer recognizes the drive...it's listed with my 2 other external drives, but they are in BLACK print while the drive that won't mount is in GRAY print. I clicked the MOUNT button, but that doesn't do anything. I also clicked Verify and Restore and they say there is nothing wrong with the drive.

I also tried switching cables and using a USB rather than Firewire, but that didn't work. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Let me guess, you were writing to the disk when the power died? Even if you weren't, it may have been doing write caching.

If you have good backups: Reformat the disk in disk utility.
If you don't: Look into data recovery companies.
