Hi,

I have been starting to do a lot of typesetting (LaTeX for the win) and somewhat running into problems when I have 4 or more documents open because of the PDF output file and the writing window itself.

I am currently using a 15" Powerbook and was thinking about getting another screen for my work. I have been browsing around newegg and dell and found a couple options in the 19" range, which would be perfectly fine.

I just wanted to hear some outside opinions. I am looking to spend around 200. Any good options?

Cheers,

Biest

Viewsonic has been good to me in the past, so I thought I would stick this link in for a Viewsonic 20" on NewEgg.

Newegg.com - ViewSonic Optiquest Series Q20WB Black 20" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1 - Retail

I don't own it, but it's gotten good reviews, and I just wanted to point out that you might be able to jump up to the 20" resolution for $200.

Cheers

Fry's has been having good deals lately on LCDs - 21" for $250, 19" for $200. If there's one in your area, I'd check the ads.
For all the trash I talk, I sure own a lot of Macs...

Keep in mind that most (all?) 19" LCDs will have the same or lower resolution than your 15" laptop LCD, so you won't be able to fit more on a single screen. You'll have two screens to work with if your eyes don't mind adjusting between the different pixel densities looking back and forth.

20" gets you quite a few more pixels (and a closer pixel density than laptop screens) most of the time... like this one for $160: Newegg.com - SCEPTRE X20WG-1080P Black 20.1" 5ms(GTG) supported Windows Vista Certified DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1 Built in Speakers - Retail

I got a Westinghouse 19" Widescreen monitor from BestBuy on Memorial Day or something for $119.

I really like it.
