I've got a mac pro and it's mostly an amazing bit of kit , apart from it's bluetooth reception . i understand there's an internal probelm with the wires and you can open it up and attempt a fix yourself.

I'm not about to start ripping open a new mac costing a small fortune , so I tried adding a d-link usb adaptor - for some weird reason that didn't work at all.

Any ideas what I may be doing wrong ?

What do you mean there is an internal problem? If it's a hardware issue, better call AppleCare.

First and foremost, please elaborate on th "internal problem with the wires". There IS an internal cable for the Bluetooth card that goes to an external antenna, and it's possible for the user to open the machine quite safely and ensure the cables are properly installed.

As for why a D-Link adaptor would fail to work, it probably doesn't have a Mac OS driver. If you post the exact model of adaptor we might be able to tell you more about it. But first, that bit of elaboration-otherwise my head will hurt a lot!

hi , thanks for replying

the problem is discussed at the apple boards -

Apple - Support - Discussions Bluetooth and Mac Pro problem ...

it seems they mislabelled the internal wires when they built the mac pro

anyway , i'm wondering if it's worth buying a new usb dongle and seeing if it works ? i tried my sister's - it's a d-link bluetooth dbt-120 , h/w ver B3 and it didn't work , which is a shame as i'd love to use bluetooth instead of the extended wired set up i'm on at the moment

thanks for any help you can come up with !

i tried a new angle , adding a usb hub and adding the d link to that , it seems to work a bit better

i think i'll investigate a new dbt-120 after all , it's only £10

I don't know why I didn't think to do this before-Bluetooth doesn't belong in the Networking forum, so I'm moving this thread.
