Hey

I know this thread has been on this forum probably million times but I wanted to ask again I'm about to buy some good speakers for my Mac Pro and I'm really undecided. I had Bose Companion 5 and I think they sound really astonishing but returned them to the store because I wanted to know some opinions from you people. I'm ready to spend 400 dollars on a speakers system. Preferrably 2.1 but if there's something really good in 5.1 then sure why not? And one more thing. How about Klipsch? My brother has really old 4.1 system and it sounds great except you can hear cracking while u crank the volume up but I think it's because they're quite old.

I currently have the Bose Companion 5 and am planning to upgrade to Logitech z5500 (tigerdirect.com sells them for a really good price $299CDN or $289 US)

I know I had the Z5500 but they were terrible in higher range. Also, sub didn't create low range but some kind of would rather call it buzz. And yea preferrably 2.1

I was thinking Companion 5 versus this: http://klipsch.com/products/details/...gmx-a-2-1.aspx

Do you guys know any other good brands? Bose, Klipsch, B&O, JBL, h/k... what else?

If you've got the money, I would recommend these. I personally just bought a set of z5300e's, and they're wonderful speakers. I believe that they're TXH certified when I watch DVDs in full surround sound. Sounds better than almost every 200-400 home-theatre-in-a-box system I've listened to.

At $400 though you might look into a nice receiver and a pair of floorstanding speakers, if these don't need to sit on your desk.

You really have to listen for yourself though. Why did you return your Bose speakers if you loved how they sounded?

I really want something that sounds spectacular for that price, not fake like these Logitech's. Companion 5's are great but I'm wondering if there's something better.

$400 is a lot for great "computer speakers", but it's really not all that much at all if you're talking about a great 2.1 system made out of real components.

How about a pair of M-Audio monitors paired with a subwoofer?

Cambridge Soundworks are my favorites computer speakers, get the Soundworks not the Creative speakers. I've used there speakers for over 6yrs, same set. Sound as good if not better than Bose for half the price. The Cambridge SoundWorks SoundWorks (33 watts) is a good for $79 but the Cambridge SoundWorks MicroWorks II gives you 80watts for $149. I've heard the Logitech, their OK, but bass lacking clarity, my friend who bought them said "listen to that sub thump", told him all i heard was bunch of low end muddy distortion, highs were also a little sharp for my tastes.

Klipsch are good but they also seem to put too much emphasis on high end for my taste.

Cambridge are clear defined highs/mids but not overly sharp and crisp/punchy lows, much like the Bose sound. Try them they have a 30 day money back gaurantee, mail order only, you'll be amazed at how good the sound is for what they cost. I have a set at home, and set at work, have never had anyone say anything but praise about how good they sound.

Well I've gone through nearly half a dozen speaker systems in the past few years looking for the right ones. I've had the Klipsch 2.1. They are very good for computer speakers but not really what I would consider hi-fi. Recently had an M-Audio 2.1 system which was really nice. If you are serious about sound forget about computer speakers and get studio monitors. My search finally ended with the Blue Sky EXO 2.1 system. Nice detailed highs but not too harsh, neutral midrange, clean and tight bass. IMHO, I think these are currently the best speakers you can get for your computer in the $300 - $400 range.
