Hey everyone. I've been researching the digital cable issue and here is my problem and question. I currenlty have the Plextor ConvertX with EyeTV software encoding and displaying my Analog Cable. I was thinking I could hook up an EyeTV 500 (by connecting the Analog Cable to the back) and it would display the Digital Channels being broadcast known as ClearQam. I live in New York City and I do have Basic cable so this should work in theory. Would the EyeTV 500 do this for me and can i plug in the Cable from my cable outlet to the back of it or is it a specific kind of input? Is there another product that uses EyeTV software that would help me and be a better choice? Also... there is no need for hardware encoding when dealing with the digital signal because it's already Mpeg 2 correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You need to subscribe to your cable companies Digital Cable service first, then you would be able watch the unencripted digital channels on the EyeTV500. With Digital Cable, you use the same coax cable currently used with analog cable.

Well, I currently use an EyeTV 500 with basic analog cable only and am able to pull in all the unencrypted digital channels with the QAM tuner. I do not need the digital cable package to do this. I think this is pretty typical. I have Charter for my cable service. YMMV.
