Hello all, this is my first post although I've been using Macs for well over 15 years.

I recently bought a 160GB Apple TV and am having an issue with it that I hoped someone could help me fix. It doesn't seem to want to sync my movies. I have converted them using Handbrake with the HB-AppleTV settings but when I go to sync them it "syncs" but nothing is on the Apple TV. So it never really synced the movies. I can stream the videos from my MacBookPro CoreDuo to the Apple TV so I know the codec and settings are compatible, but it's just not syncing the movies. I have tried the following settings:

Sync: All Movies
Sync: Selected Movies and selected movies to sync

Neither option seems to work.

If you need further details I will be happy to supply them. I am also going to post this in the Handbrake forums and see if anyone has any solutions.

I forgot to mention that I have movies converted using the 0.8.5b1 release as well as those converted from the latest SVN compiles. None of them sync.

I recognize this doesn't address your question at all, but I'm going to throw it out there as an FYI, because I found it to be very helpful, because managing my movies & space on the AppleTV turned out to be unnecessary for me.

I read in these forums that under Sources you can choose your iTunes library and browse all your movies (and content) from your computer, and just stream your movie instead of Syncing it to your AppleTV. I was so pleased with this info that I don't bother syncing any TV/Movie content at all.

I don't know how slow you can go, but I definitely don't have 802.11n speed on my airport, so a super-fast network was not a barrier to using this technique.

I'm sure someone else will post the answer (or helpful comment) on the problem described above, but in case you get tired of managing content, try streaming.

User error. I had all my movies unchecked in the regular view to keep them from syncing to my iPod using the only sync checked items feature so I wouldn't get error messages. I simply checked them and am now managing my iPod videos manually instead. Since the Apple TV doesn't allow you to sync regardless of them being checked it just assumes you don't want them synced if they aren't checked even though they are checked in the sync dialogue.

Like i say, User error and I'm in the IT field. I can't believe i over looked that one. lol
