I bought an external floppy drive from e-bay. (Chinese, Teac).

When I plug it into the usb port, it starts working. When I insert a floppy, it works again.

But nothing shows up on the desktop. No drive symbol. Nothing.

I get a "DVD_VIDEO" symbol on the hard drive (I have to click on the hard drive icon on the desk top to see it). If you double-click it, you get the message "INSERT THE DISC OR CONNECT TO THE SERVER VOLUME UNTIL IT SHOWS UP ON THE DESKTOP". I cannot eject this.)

When I remove the floppy, I get the warning "device removal. Data could be lost".

Am I doing anything wrong?

Well, I should have called this thread " Why is my USB 2.0 floppy drive not working", as it is just a plug-and-play device.

OSX has USB floppy drivers built in, but I wonder whether you are on a laptop - it could be the drive isn't getting enough power from the USB port - try plugging it into a powered hub.

Try updating the drivers, too, though.

Those are from 2002, and SURE not to work properly on any Intel-based machine.

Ever since 10.3, every floppy drive I've bothered to hook up has just worked. No ifs, ands, or buts.
