My dad just bought a Sony SR82 camera and it reluctantly imports with his MBP but has no problem importing onto my Macbook. We are both using iLife 08, so there is no difference in iMovie versions. On his computer when the camera is activated, it is recognized in Finder on his Mac, opens up iPhoto, and then is unrecognized in iMovie. If I do the same thing on my Macbook, the same thing happens, yet iMovie pulls the clips up and prepares to import. I know how to import manually, but it just isn't an option on the MBP. HELP!!!!

That's strange. I don't really know where one would go to change that setting. It must be a variable in the LaunchServices database, but right now this question has me stumped.

Well, I have messed with it some more, and if I turn off iPhoto's recognition of the camera, make sure that iMovie is not open, and then attach the cameram turn it on, and then open iMovie, it works. Very odd.
