Which is a better card, the ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory (found in the new iMac), or what I am currently using (NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT DDL, 256MB memory) in a rev A G5 5 yrs old? I am wanting to buy the iMac, but the video card has got me gun-shy. Most of my usage will be photos, internet, and some gaming over the internet, plus Call of Duty ...
Thanks.

The HD 2600XT (slightly faster than the Pro) is about 35% faster than the 6800GT in a PC (slightly faster than the Mac version) in Windows, so you'd come out a bit ahead after the upgrade.

Your sig says you have the X800XT, which is as fast as the HD2600Pro (again, comparing the faster PC X800XT to the faster HD2600XT).

Yes, I need to update my sig: the X800XT died last week, and I replaced it with the spare NVIDEA I had prior to the X800XT. As a sidenote, I've had two ATI cards, and neither one lasted more than a year.
Good to hear that the HD 2600 Pro is on a par with the X800XT: that was an excellent card (while it lasted).
Thank you for your response. I think I will spring for the new iMac 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme. This G5 has been a real workhorse. I've had to replace a hard drive and video cards, but other than that, it runs flawlessly; having said that, I really think that I need to bite the bullet and migrate to Intel, as it seems to be the future. This (iMac) should be my last computer (I have just retired at 60 and will be on a limited budget from here on out).

I have the X800XT inside my DP 2Ghz G5 as well. Meanwhile, how much did you pay for the GeForce 6800 GT 256MB card?

I really can't remember how much I paid for it. It's an ok card. I must say this, however: although it's lasted longer than the ATI cards, it runs hot (196F under a full load; 185F idle), and because it's hot, the fans SCREAM.
