Hi, just bought a sony HVR-A1U which I want to use to record live meetings. Because I will need to run it for hours at a time, I would like to run it tapeless and just record the video on my MacBook. I'm having a couple problems and could use some advice.

(1) What program should I use? I just tried iMovie, but one major problem with it is that it seems to take "forever" to process the video after I'm done recording. I tested it out and for a 10 minute clip, it took another 10 minutes to process the video. This is unacceptable. I need to write the video to disk as I am recording.

(2) I need a program that will allow me to save the video to an external drive. Oh snap, I can't do that b/c I am using my only fw port for the camera Grrr, anyone have any suggestions how I can just simply record a couple hours of video without a tape?
