It is my goal to become more self-sufficient when it comes to hardware - especially since a friend gave me his old G4 Power Mac: Digital Audio. It came with 40 gig and I decided to purchase a larger internal drive (120 gig) and install it myself. I practiced by removing and re-installing the original drive (twice) to make sure I connected everything properly before attempting to install the new one. It seemed very easy, however once I restarted the computer with the new drive installed with the previous drive, doesn't seem to recognize the newly installed device. I have confirmed that everything is connected.
I've searched numerous blogs to see if anyone has experienced a similar issue - but no luck.
Any assistance or advice would be appreciated.
Thx!

Hm, maybe check the original 40gig drive to see that it is set to Master? It could be on Cable Select which may(or may not) affect the second drive. Also double/triple check your slave setting is correct.

Swap the drives locations maybe? 40 where the 120 is/120 where the 40 was, to rule out bad connectors on the IDE cables.

I've got three HDDs in my Digital Audio G4 and no problemos ever.

Thanks much.
I'll check the cables again tonight and try swapping them. I'll let you know what happens.

If I remember correctly, both drives should be set to cable select. I used to own a G4 digital audio. If you are coming from the PC world, you might think that drives in Macs have a Master/Slave relationship, but they don't. It's kind of nice.
