So I finally got a new 7200rpm drive fitted in my PowerBook, and recently bought a cheap external enclosure for the old one so I can use it as a portable drive.

However, for some reason when I connect it to my girlfriend's iBook it mounts just fine, but when i plug it in to my PowerBook, it doesn't register.

My other USB drive works just fine and I can't figure out why it won't mount.

I formatted it completely and it is obviously working, but doesn't want to play nice with the younger, newer, sexier version I'm currently playing around with...

HELP!

Are you connecting both USB leads from the enclosure or just one?

Well, both USB connectors wont plug into my PowerBook as the USB slots are on opposite sides of the computer, but that doesn't seem to be a problem with the iBook, as it mounts as soon as one USB cable is connected

It may be a problem with the amount of power that the ports on the PowerBook can provide compared to the iBook. The spec is 2.5W, which is very close to the power it takes to spin up a 2.5" drive, so if the PowerBook is a tad low it will need both leads. Buy a USB extension cable to try.

The Powerbooks have notoriously underpowered usb ports. Try a powered hub.

Hmm, that doesn't sound promising. To be honest, I think I'm just gunna let the Mrs use it for her Time Machine device when Leopard ships.

It mounts fine on her iBook so I guess that's just what it was intended to do.

Thanks for the help.
