I am looking for a small LCD HDTV that can double as a monitor (when not in use) for my MBP. I don't know a thing about TVs, however, so any advice would be appreciated. There are Samsung and LG TVs that both have "PC Inputs" but I think that actually means via VGA. I'd like to do DVI. Now, I've tried a DVI to HDMI cable in the past with no success, but that was with a Samsung CRT HDTV.

Does anyone know if the DVI will work with the HDMI input (with an appropriate cable, of course) with either an LG 20" LCD HDTV or an equivalent Samsung?

Thanks ...

I've got a 42" Sanyo LCD I was able to use as a monitor for my MBP going DVI to HDMI. Worked without a hitch.
2.3 GHz Intel i5 MacBook Pro
iPhone 4 - 16 GB - Black
8gb iPod Nano

Your CRT probably wanted DVI-A and your Mac only did DVI-D.

DVI or HDMI on any LCD should work with your Mac.

I suspect you are right mduell. Are there weird HDMI specifications that might be troubling?

Oh, I missed that it was HDMI to the CRT. That's weird.

Anyways, all LCDs with HDMI should work fine with Macs.

You know, I ended up settling for an Elgato EyeTV Hybrid. Not sure how I feel about that. Anyone know if more RAM in my MBP will help it run smoother? My experience in the past suggests that the thing is pretty intensive to run.

What kind of Mac do you have, and how much RAM does it have? I've noticed that any Intel-based Mac makes EyeTV run very, very happily. I've used it on my old iBook G4, PowerBook G4 12", MacBook, and my MacBook Pro. The latter 2 allow EyeTV to record in high quality mode. All but the iBook has more than 1GB of RAM.

So I demoed a Pinnacle something or other that seemed to be basically the same thing as the EyeTV. I know it's a different company but boy were the products strikingly similar. I figured it was just rebranded.

Anyway, It's a MBP 2.2 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 128 MB VRAM, though I don't know if the eyetv leverages video RAM and GPU.
