Alrighty, back in March I bought a Benq 22" FP222W. Turns out this monitor has really bad banding issues. It's like it cannot display any kind of shadow or dark gradients without destroying the image.
For example, in this OS X image, there is a lot noise and banding.
Now, can anyone suggestion a 22" that they know for sure that doesn't have the issue that my Benq has?

Many people here, myself included, have been happy with the Dell LCDs.

Cool, I assume the Dells don't have any banding issues, right?

Samsung is very good as well. I'm looking at a Samsung SM225BW 22" LCD for my fiancee & I* just bought a 24" SM245B Samsung LCD, although I'm still waiting on delivery.

I'm not sure if they still do but I think both Dell and Apple used samsung panels in their LCDs.
I chose the dell because I like the stand and how it could elevate and angle in just about every direction. and it rotates 90 degrees.

At one time it was confirmed that a certain iteration of Apple displays were using the same panels as some Dell/Samsung LCDs. Dell has a budget line AND their higher-end displays, you people can't say "oh, apple uses the same panel as dell" as a blanket statement (at the time it was the 2005fpw).
It's a tough call Mal, but certainly Samsung, Dell and Apple all get pretty nice reviews here and elsewhere on the net. Budget displays will give budget results (well except for my $129 Westinghouse 19" Widescreen!)
TN Panels in recent monitors seem to be better than they were just a couple of years ago.
Good luck
