I want to run a FireWire Drive constantly for Time Machine. But I don't want to hear it. So I need to put the disk away as far as possible. The IEEE specs defines the maximum cable length as 4.5 m. I only get cheap cables with 5 m length. Has someone experience in how this distance works? I guess it also depends on the cable quality, but still I'd like to hear some opinions.
