I have two Apple displays connected to a Dual 2.3 Ghz PowerPC G5. The pictures on both displays are fine. i do have a couple problems with them, having to do with shutting down the Mac.

When I go to shutdown the (via the Apple Menu), the tower shuts down as it should and the white power light goes out. The left monitor, which is also the main monitor, shuts down and its white light goes out. The right monitor shuts down and the light goes out, but it looks like it still has power running through it. The picture is black, the color black with a little glow to it, and not the matte black of most LCD's that are truly off. How do I get both displays to power down correctly?

Also, I can't seem to get my second display to turn off. I don't use both displays all of the time, so I would rather keep one off. But when I go to hit the power button on the display, the white light just glows and goes out while the display stays on, with the desktop and all. The power button has worked fine in the past, but I don't know what the problem is now.

It might just be a physical monitor-tower connection problem, but who knows?

Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.

So I guess I solved my own problem.

The reason why the second monitor would not shut down fully was because the OS and Display settings were in sleep mode. When I hit the power button on the tower, that put it to sleep. The power buttons on the displays did the same thing. I just changed the settings in the Display preferences.

For those of you who have similar problems, go to the System Preferences > Displays > Options > Display Power Button.
If you have the same problems as I did, you probably have "Puts the system to sleep or wakes it" selected. Just pick a different option then close out the Preferences window and your shutdown problems will be solved. You will be able to shut both displays off at will by way of the power buttons on the displays.
