I'm just curious... I can pick up a Pioneer DVR-112D (the same one installed in my MacPro, to install in my second Optical Drive Bay. Newegg has it for $29.95, OWC has it for $34.95. My question is does it matter who I order it from? Will it show up as Apple Supported/Installed, or will I need to do install different firmware? Has anyone installed one? Does it matter? Thanks?

Yes it will I upgraded my G5 to a DVR-112D last year, I DID have a problem with it burning coaster after coaster with CD-R (Never on DVD-R though) so I changed it for a newer LG drive (Lite-On LH-20A1H) It says "vendor supported" in leopard and burns thru the finder & iApps just fine (I read leopard supports many more drives) it is also 20X DVD-R speed and burns CD/DVD fine.
If you are set on the Pioneer I am pretty sure they worked out all the problems.... for the $35 I decided not to go through the RMA/repair process and just got the LG.

I put a DVR 110 in my PowerMac G4 last year. It wasn't fully supported with OS 10.4.3..but when I upgraded to 10.4.8 it was completely "natively" supported. It read "Apple Supported/ Installed". It worked flawlessly with out any alteration... Although I did upgraded it's firmware once. I just want a Natively supported Drive that I don't have to tinker with too much. Do you have a link for the drive you are talking about? Does it matter what firmware is on it.
If nothing else... I can downgrade the 112 to the 110 via firmware and it will be supported.

My Pioneer 111D shows up as an Apple Shipped drive under Leopard. It works fine and does everything it should from Finder and iLife.
