I come back to my room tonight to find a puddle under my external hard drive. My roommate denies having spilled anything on my desk but I know there is no other way for that amount of liquid to be on my desk. I plugged it in, the light lit up but there was nothing happening on my computer. I tried it again and it said the USB device was drawing too much power and shut down the USB port. Now the light just lights up when I plug it in. Liquid is coming out of the seems so it is clearly the culprit.

What can I do about this? Should I let it dry out then try it again? Should I sent it to a data recovery place? It has information on it and thousands of photos I just took off of my computer and very much need.

Open the case and let it air dry. Do not power it on until it's dried completely. If it still doesn't work, maybe put it inside your computer and see if it works there.
