I haven't noticed that the PCI USB2 inside my MDD doesn't work with Leopard… System Profiler doesn't list it as being full speed USB2, and none of the devices I have attached work (a Kingston keychan, a Belkin USB BT module, and a dymo LabelWriter 400), anyone else with the same card could double check it?

Oh well… it is clearly a sleep wake-up issue… once I put the Mac to sleep and then wake it up the Belkin card doesn't work. What a pity… I have another PCI USB2 card wich brand escapes to me -so to speak- which also worked under 10.4, might be silly if it does it also with 10.5 where the well-known Belkin fails… :-/

I have the PCI Express version of these cards (2 or them) in my MacPro and they work flawlessly with Leopard. I can even Deep Sleep! It will more than likely get worked out. Try Zapping your pram just to make sure.

Thanks for your reply webraider, mine is this one:
Belkin : Hi-Speed USB 2.0 5-Port PCI Card

Weird enough I can't find it on the Belkin Support section :-/

There is an on-going report on USB 2.0 PCI cards and Leopard over on xlr8yourmac.com.

My adaptec AUA-4000B and Sonnet Allegro USB 2.0 PCI card did the same thing under Leopard. I contacted Sonnet and they suggested me the following;

Delete and empty trash for the three (3) following files and directories:

/System/Library/Extensions.mkext (a file)
/System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernelcaches (a directory)
/System/Library/Caches/com.apple.romextensions (a directory)

The last directory might not exist so don't worry about it if it isn't there. Restart after you do this so OS X will rebuild some of the files.

I haven't tried it yet.

Thanks for your input Kenneth, sadly I think I shall have to wait to some sort of update since a sleep wake-up process puts the Belkin PCI card to shame… XD

I know. It's so inconvenient. Normally, I put my MDD into sleep mode. After Leopard, I turn it off instead.

I had sent an e-mail to Belkin support service three weeks ago and still no news… besides the standard "we will reply you…"

Got a reply at last… polite but kind of discouraging… it's all about a driver, isn't?

"Good day Mr. Angel

We understand that you have issues with your Hi-speed USB 2.0 5-port PCI card model # F5U220v1.
I apologize Mr. Angel, the USB PCI card will not support new Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
This is the reason why the device stop working when you upgrade the system on the computer to OSX 10.5 Leopard.

If you need further assistance please feel free to write back to us and we will be happy to assist you.

Regards
Belkin Technical Support
Thank you for choosing Belkin"

That's pretty sad to hear. I think it's time to get a AC-powered USB hub.
