1. What is a good PCI Card with USB 2.0 ports for a DP G4 Quicksilver?

2. I have this 2.5" HD:

and need an external enclosure for it. Which is good? I will be using it with the PCI card you recommend above so a USB2.0 enclosure is fine. I am not exactly sure which style enclosure I need.

Why don't you take a FireWire enclosure, then you don't need a USB card?

USB2 PCI cards (avoid the low-profile ones)
USB2+Firewire PCI cards (doesn't really add much to the cost)

USB2 enclosures (pick whatever you like the look of)
USB2+Firewire enclosures (if you want to go that way instead)

Pick anything from those links with a 4 or 5 rating and more than a couple votes.

gio.vanni, not exactly sure about Quicksilver G4, but quite a few models of PowerMac G4 have/had deep sleep problems with USB 2.0 PCI cards that had devices attached.

Regarding sleep issues… my Power Mac MDD has a Belkin F5U220 PCI USB2 (4 external ports + 1 internal port), it worked flawlessly under 10.4 but once I upgraded to 10.5, it has sleep issues, after a sleep/wake-up the Belkin doesn't work no matter there is any device attached to it or not.

So if you are fine with 10.4 this Belkin can serve you right, if you are going to run 10.5 and sleep availability is a must, forget this card.

mduell, thanks man. I picked up the Coolmax one (first on the list if you click on the link). My question is it says it has an internal IDE interface while the HD I linked to has an ATA100 interface. Does that matter?

As for the PCI card... it does kind of piss me off that the Powermac has only 2 USB ports but I believe now that I got a Firewire enclosure, I won't need it. Plus I am getting an RME 9652 so I won't need any USB or Firewire ports for my audio card.

The rest of you guys, thanks for the replies. I hope I bought the right one.

Any permutation of the letters IDE, EIDE, or ATA and optionally numbers from 66 to 133 and seperators like - and / is going to work.

Perfect! I recieved the enclosure yesterday and can't wait to get home to throw that HD in their. I have so many PT sessions and gigs worth of valuable samples on that HD. Thanks a million for all of the help. You guys are top notch.
