was thinking of getting this, it's on salea at best buy for 149.99 it doesn't have image stabilization though, is that really important? i'd sure hate to get blurry photos. does IS really help that much?

I'm looking at it on Amazon and it seems to have a 3x optical zoom. I think you'll be okay between 0 and 3x zoom without IS.
I have a 200mm lens (around 10x optical zoom) without IS and I have gotten some sharp photos.

I think you'll be fine.

I needed a camera in a pinch, so I bought one at wal-mart, used it, and returned it the next day (they have the best return policy). It works for basic shots, but it lacks some settings that the rest of the canon's have. It's their cheapo mass-consumer cam.

I've since bought the SD750, which has no IS but is a much better camera IMO (better user interface too).

I'm not a fan of Canon's cameras, unless they're DSLR.

I'd recommend looking at Fuji's for point and shoots.

I have an SD 1000 & I love it. I'm not sure what Roz liked so much more about the SD 750. they are the exact same camera, but the 1000 is smaller, has an optical viewfinder in addition to the screen & also has a smaller screen. Aside from that, they are the same camera.

The SD 850 is seems to be the best point & shoot camera out there right now. It is similar to the SD 1000, but offers the image stabilization, as well as a 4x optical zoom. IS helps when you're taking pictures of fast moving stuff & in low light conditions. If you have the extra @, IS is worth it, if not, the SD 1000 is a great camera. It's also slightly smaller & more pocketable than the other cameras, which is why I bought it. For use in low light & fast moving situations, there are settings that help to frame the pics (night mode & kids/pets mode respectively) These aren't the same as IS, but all around the SD 1000 is a great camera, it gets high marks & uses the Digic III chip from canon that also gets really good reviews. $150 is a GREAT price on the camera. I got it for $185 45 days ago & that was a steal.

You really don't need image stabilization. Just use the flash, increase the ISO, or stabilize the camera with good technique (or a tripod, bean bag, etc.).

My camera when i plug it in seems to not be recognized by My OS, VIsta. Previous instances in which i plugged it in, it worked properly. But recently, a computer wizard made some modifications to my laptop that was branched from a small battery problem. I have no idea what he changed, maybe thats where the problem lies. But until i discover what went wrong, please give me some recommendations as to what i can do to fix this problem.
