Hi,

Was wondering if anyone can help me. Just bought the Miglia TVMax+ for my boyfriend and we're having problems installing the software (MigliaTV 1.1.2) - it goes all the way thru to the point where it scans for TV stations - we had it set to only stop when it detected one then we named it & stored it, or ignored it if the signal was really bad - but when it reaches 855.25 MHz frequency & Channel C71, it freezes (i.e. requires us to store/ignore channel), even though there is nothing but interference.

When we select ignore, it goes to channel C71-2 and freezes again - then same for C71-3, C71-4 and so on. Although the channel numbers keep going up the frequency stays at 855.25 MHz, so it doesn't appear to be scanning still, but the 'Next' button is greyed out and the only option (other than Store/Ignore) is 'Back'.

I tried storing the channel to see if that made a difference, but it didn't. I also tried switching to the 'Get all channels' option (which stores all channels then lets you name/delete them at a later date) but all this does is save me the effort of hitting 'Ignore' each time the channel number increases.

I'm currently at channel C71-578 with no signs of it letting up. I ended up force quitting at around this stage yesterday, so none of the channels I'd stored were saved. I'm using an imac G5, running 10.5.1. Please help!

Thx

Hello Badgerette,

Have you tried asking Miglia's support?
If you do a restart of the computer, and open nothing else but the MigliaTV application-
Click on MigliaTV in the menu bar and run the setup assistant and scan for channels until you find this problem-
And when it starts to act like this, click on Help, Create Miglia Support File

That creates a Miglia support file as a zipped archive on your Desktop. It contains your console log, system profiler report, crash logs, and a list of quicktime components you have installed, and it helps Miglia troubleshoot exactly where the fault lies.

Email that file to support@miglia.com with a description of the problem, and mention macnn forums, and that should be a good place to start.

Alternatively, there are a few other things you can do.

How are you connecting it? To an antenna? Is it a rooftop antenna? How many splitters are in place between the antenna and the TVMax+? Is there a signal booster in place? (I'm wondering if there's a low-signal condition that is causing it to continue searching on this channel it's having trouble with.) Can you try going around the splitters and straight to the source?

Open Applications/Utilities/Console and look at the console messages when it's falling over, and tell me what they say?

Contacting support makes sense. Also worth checking that you have the latest software downloaded as I had a similar problem recently post Leopard and the latest software download fixed it.

Thanks for the response guys - I went to follow your advice, vmarks, but the problem did not reoccur - no idea why not... I did download the software again from miglia.com (as I had uninstalled it following my previous problems) but it was the same version I downloaded 2 days ago - v1.1.2. (I did try uninstalling & reinstalling the software the other day, as well as rebooting etc, but all to no avail.)

The only other thing I can think of is that I'm working out of a different user account today - but I can't see why that would make a difference as both have full admin priviledges... Do you think it COULD have made a difference?

For the record, it is connected to a rooftop antenna, goes through one (amplified) splitter, no way to bypass this. Not sure if it's relevant but I borrowed a friend's TVmini which worked fine out of the same (coaxial arial) socket (although I realise that's digital signal rather than analogue).

As I've said, software was only downloaded at the time the problem occured, so don't think that was the issue. Obviously I can't tell you what console says a problem has not reoccured!

Thanks again.

Hi Badgerette,
If you want to uninstall, use http://miglia.com/Support/Files/delmigliatv.zip

It's an applescript that takes care of things a little tidier than the uninstaller that gets put in the folder in Applications.

Additionally, a new user account can make a world of difference, depending on what's installed in a user's home/Library/QuickTime, for an example.

aside: an amplified splitter will actually perform worse with the TVMini than it will with the TVMax+. The TVMax+ is an analogue device and the amplification won't affect it so badly. Amplification can really screw up the signal to noise ratio for the digital signal, and TVMini is such a digital device ...

Good luck. you can always create that support file, which will let you send Miglia crash logs, system profiler, a list of quicktime components that are installed (could be a conflict?) and the console log. That's really what's in the support file.
