can I buy a cheaper Mouse with a BT dongle, "toss" the dongle and still use it?

Does it actually say it's a bluetooth mouse, or just wireless? Most mice sold with those dongles, at least the ones I see in stores, are just wireless dongles, not bluetooth.

But yes, if the mouse is really bluetooth-compliant, then it should work fine on a bluetooth Mac without a mouse-supplied bluetooth dongle.

Sure; BlueTooth is BlueTooth. Just be sure not to buy an RF (wireless HID "standard" prior to BT) mouse with an RF dongle. Also note that most BT mice are "notebook size" rather than desktop/full size.

Any of these mice should work; about half come with dongles and half don't. I like this one.
