I have a HP laserjet 1300, and have had it a while.

Ive recharged the toner w toner in a bottle.

Im now getting greying along one edge, the left side of the printed doc.

gently redistributing the toner does not solve this. and I couldn't find an example on the HP site looking up trouble shooting.

do the rollers need cleaning? the greying is fairly uniform and only on the left side. not intermittent streaks.

cheers and thanks

HP uses drums that are supposed to be changed every time you change the toner (unlike Kyocera, for instance). So you cannot expect that refilling this one drum several times works. For the same reason, you could refill their old integrated inkjet tanks no more than twice.

OK
thats good info. so there is no way to clean the drum until I use this added toner up?

in another HP the first 'recharge' w toner worked fine.

maybe HP can only be recharged once?

many thanks

There is no rule how long it will last. But these drums are only specced to last one charge of toner. So I wouldn't be surprised if they last twice, three times as long, but not longer.

however there is no way to 'clean' them once until I find a discounted replacement?

cheers and thanks again

There is a way to clean the printer: it'll print a page with lots of black that you'll have to feed it once more. You can find the instructions in your printer's manual. If that doesn't work, I can't think of another way. That's one reason I opted against an HP LaserJet.
