Before I purchase the apple tv, looking for others who have a rear projection tv and using the apple tv. Mine is a sony 50 inch I purchased last year. Is the quality good? I have HDMI ports on it so it should be good quality but want to hear form others. ALSO, that 40gb hard drive seems very small. I see the apple tv has a USB port. Can I hook up an external drive to expand it. There is to big of a price difference between the 40 and 160 version. Thanks.

Being a previous owner of an AppleTv I am currently regretting selling it. The quality will be good on a 50 inch projection. I plugged mine into a 55 inch hitachi and it looked great. As for using the USB for a hard drive, I'm pretty sure that won't work. I think I remember that being an issue for some customers when the AppleTv was first released. I dont think anything works with the usb... I think its for Apple techs if it needs repair... Don't quote me but that is just what I recall reading in the past on this forum.
For me I wouldnt worry too much about the size of the HD. You can always stream your media.
