I have an acomdata external drive. The way it works is by first mounting a virtual cd, then I use a provided program called "secure HD login" and it bring me to a screen where I log in. However, lately when ever I try to get into my drive it says "device not found", despite the fact tht my computer has mounted the virtual CD part.(can only be mounted when drive is connected.)

So nothing seemed to be working, but I am pretty sure I have a warranty on t, so I can get it replaced. The only problem is my warranty is with Futureshop/Bestbuy, who are notorius for going through the drives, refurbishing them and sending them to other customers with all the data still on them. I do not quite remember what I had on the drive, but I am afraid there is some less then legal stuff on there.

I know that magenets ruin drives, and I have a really, really strong one. for example, her it is supporting the drive in the air.

So here is my question, since only the virtual cd registers, I can not wipe my drive via computer, will this magnet (and various dropping) do it?

I should add that after my abuse, the virtual CD part still appears when I connect the slightly broken HD
