hey guys

I just bought a new apple alu keyboard and I really like it. I only have one problem with it, and that is how can I reprogram the F15 to F19 keys to act like the F8 through F12 keys on my macbook (so the F15 key pulls up spaces, F16 exposes all windows, F17 exposes application windows, F18 exposes desktop, and F19 pulls up dashboard)?

I have tried adding new keyboard shortcuts using System Preferences and I cant seem to make it do it, but I might just be doing it wrong.

BTW, I am on a macbook with Leopard 10.5.1

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi there mate,

You need to open the "Dashboard & Exposé" preference pane in System Preferences (at least that's what it is in OSX 10.4). There is a section there for Keyboard and Mouse Shortcuts.

Cheers,
Rob.

thanks for the response Rob, however the Expose and Spaces area of system preferences won't let me have more than one keyboard shortcut for each action, I can only setup one keyboard shortcut and one mouse shortcut (so for Expose Desktop it is F11 and Mouse 3, but I want F11 and F18).

Anyone else have any ideas? I was hoping they would allow me to do this in 10.5.2 but I guess thats one thing they left out....

What makes matters worse, I'm trying to re-assign the keyboard shortcuts in the Expose & Spaces Pref pane.

No matter what shortcut I assign to Dashboard, F4 will STILL trigger Dashboard on my iMac with the aluminum keyboard attached. HOW effing annoying.
Is F4 hard-wired to Dashboard on the new Apple keyboards ?

Is there *ANY* way I can free up F4 from the default Dashboard and assign it to something else ?

I have not tried it yet, but I had a similar issue. I assigned a preassigned fn to another key and then reassigned it to another key. That worked for me.
