Every time the Apple TV has reference to a TV, its "Now playing on your widescreen TV." or "iTunes Movie Rentals, now on your widescreen TV." and so on. They seem to be stressing the widescreen TV part. With the new update, I'm now interested in the Apple TV, but haven't yet upgraded to a widescreen of any type. Will it still support my TV?

They say this because they only want to support widescreen TVs. Widescreen is the wave of the future, and they have easy connections for widescreen TVs.
But it isn't so.
If you have an old Tube TV with component (RGB) connectors, you can use it, and tell AppleTV that you have a 480i television. AppleTV will work properly.
There are also ways to use AppleTV with component with adapters to convert the signals from component to composite. Here's an example of someone selling one for this purpose: Apple TV Converter

$129 for that? I'm apparently in the wrong business!
I'm off to look for a cheaper, home-brew solution on the Internet now. Someone must have done it by now.
It's not as simple as using a cable, because you're going to have to combine some of the composite signals together which will require some active circuitry, but someone must have a project online somewhere....
Edit: It is a little more complicated than I thought, because a lot of projects I've seen include an NTSC Encoding stage, and the chips they use are obsolete.....

Well thanks guys. I do have component connectors, so I could try that, but it seems I'd be better off getting a widescreen. I mean, my TV is old. And fuzzy at times. But I don't want to get a cheap LCD, I want to go all out, and just don't want to see the price tag right now...
I've got a while before I get an Apple TV anyways, because I need a better Mac first. So new TV's will be cheaper, and I just might have more money.
Dork., if you're looking just for me, don't bother, but if you're just interested, let me know if you find anything.
