I have a 19" LCD that was fine last night but completely useless this morning.

I plugged in the dvi from my laptop and the screen was all messed up on the LCD so i unplugged and replugged both ends of the DVI, turned off and on the monitor, un plugged and replugged the power supply, and it still isnt loving life.

I then tried using a DVI to VGA converter off the laptop to test the VGA input and while it wasnt the same funky image, it gave another strange horizontal lines all over the screen. I then tried adjusting the frequency between 75 and 60Hz with no luck.

I know what you might be thinking, graphics card, right? Nope. I tried both the DVI and VGA inputs on my mac mini as well with the exact same issues.

Ive even tried different DVI and VGA cables. Still no joy.

This is what the DVI input looks like when its plugged in to my laptop:

and this is when i unplug the dvi from my laptop:

Any ideas?

thanks in advance for any help.

It sounds to me like something's gone kaput on your monitor. I'm not an expert enough with displays to be able to diagnose the problem for you, sorry, but I would suggest maybe taking it to your local computer store, showing it to the friendly tech staff there and seeing what they think (as long as they don't try and charge you for it, that is .

If they can't tell you what's going on with it then I'd probably just send it to a recycling centre and buy a new display. You can pick up a decent 19" monitor for around USD$100 at the moment (probably less, if you know where to look).

Of course, someone might come onto these forums here and say: "Oh yeah, I know what's happened. You're ice cream cone's got mixed in with the bovine plug and all you need to do is strap it to the back of a cat and launch it into space. That'll fix it!" ** ** Obviously not a real diagnostic. Please don't try this at home! **

Cheers,
Rob.

turns out it was some issue with the power supply. after leaving it unplugged for longer it started working properly again. Very bizzare.

Ah yes, the ever awesome technique of "leave it alone for a while and come back to it" worked for you, eh? Good stuff! It's always nice when something fixes itself, eh?

Cheers,
Rob.
