Deciding between 2 External HDs

looking at Fantom Drive Quad interface (FW800, FW400, esata, USB) at $150 vs Mercury Elite PRo (FW800, FW400, USB), both 500GB, 16mb cache.
Use - 1 for Storage, maybe 2nd for time machine, hooked up to Alu iMac.
Anyone with experience with either drive? Will probably get 2 of whichever I choose, so difference in cost could be up to $100.

I'd go with the Fantom.
Actually, I'd recommend going with a larger drive. You're paying about $90 for the drive and $60 for the enclosure, so stepping up to 750GB only adds $50 (33%) for 50% more storage.

Not sure why, but I had this impression that the larger drives had more failure issues, at least from what I remember browsing many thread titles. Any truth to this, or is it just my biased memory?
Also, anyone have experience with either drive and share noise impressions? After almost 6 years of the G4/933, I am absolutely loving the quietness of this imac!

WD My Book Premium 500GB (USB 2.0, FW400), best external drive I've even owned. I've had it for about four months and it works brilliant. I have it partitioned half for time machine and half for storage.. $130 in amazon.
TOTALLY RECOMMENDED
You can get very good deals also with the new ones in Amazon

Thanks abeato6, but i'm looking for FW800. the WD with FW800 goes for $180-200. So far, Fantom Drives at $150 from newegg are the best prices I've found. Even buying case + HD has not yielded as good a deal. And they are produced by micronet, who has been around for as long as I can remember, so they should be good quality.

update on these drives. Bought the Fantom Drives. Great looking/feeling, small and sturdy.
But, now I am having issues that I and Micronet are looking into. Every few days, i get a lockup that forces me to hard reset. I can force quit, but the application/process will not quit. I can still use safari, but not other things, such as access drives, etc. Don't remember exact message, but i get the error code 600. Turning off the FDs gives me back my finder. Worried about data integrity if I have to do this. Still trying to figure out a solution, but may try another FW800 drive from someone else.
Anyone else have this experience with FW800 drives and Alu iMac 2.4 GHz?
