Well, I have an old NEC 1760V 17” LCD (my trusty pc gaming TN panel) display and I want to upgrade to at least 20” Wide screen. Basically, the new display will be for some photo editing and NO gaming on my Mac. Well, recently I purchased a Dell 2009WFP and found out that to display was useless for photo editing. However, for general computing it was fine. So, I returned it and I’m trying to decide whether to go for the Dell 2007WFP or should I get an Apple Cinema 20” Display?
First, I’m not rich or a pro, so I’m trying like most people and find a good value for my money. I’ve been researching and learned that S-IPS panels are preferred for photo/graphic work.
Second, I know the TN panels are NOT an option for me, the color shifting it too much.
So the price difference between the Dell and Apple is $200 extra for the Apple. I’m wondering if any one has an experience with these two displays? From recent posts it sounds like Dell is starting to use S-IPS panels again in their 2007WFP displays.
It’s hard to decide when everyone expects Apple to release updated displays too.

I do not know about the 2007 dell displays, but in the past dell and apple have purchased from the same supplier for the 20" and 30" displays, except around the holidays when supplies run short. I wish I could site my source, but I am not having much luck with Google.

Yes, I'm aware of this in the past. I'm curious if anyone has purchased a Dell 2007WFP recently here.
Thanks

My Dell 2007WFP arrived yesterday. It has the good LG-Philips S-IPS panel and I can say that I'm astounded by the utter lack of color shift across the screen especially when viewed at extreme angles -- it's beautiful. I have it hooked up to my Mac via DVI and my Dell laptop via VGA.
I have not profiled/calibrated it yet and out-of-the-box it seems over-saturated and it lacks shadow detail. Flesh tones all have an unacceptable orange-yellow cast but the white background in Word appears fairly neutral.
I did look at the Apple Cinema Displays in Best Buy before I ordered the Dell but decided I would rather spend the money saved on a colorimeter/software like the Spyder2PRO, especially since it looked like the Dell panel lottery was leaning toward the S-IPSs right now.

Thanks Kaelen for your help. I think I'll try ordering one once I receive credit back for my 2009WFP. Does anyone know which color calibration tools work best with Dell?
