I have a G4 ppc 933 and a 64bit 29160 adaptec controller that came with the computer.
Ive read numerous posts and pages about booting from a scsi drive but none have been clear in answering this question.

YES or NO? is it possible to boot OSX tiger from the scsi drive without an IDE boot disk?

(thanks in advance)

No. Adaptec pulled all support for most of their SCSI cards (39160, 29160, etc.) for OS X.

Edit: To be clear, you can't with Adaptec. If you buy a SCSI card from ATTO you're all set to go.

Adaptec - Macintosh OS X

You can give these a shot, but from what I understand, it only works with 10.2 as bootable. 10.3 will mount SCSI drives, but can't boot from them. I don't know if anyones tried it on an Intel Mac.

So is there anything I should keep in mind when it comes to the ATTO adapters ?
I have a lead on a used ATTO UL3D adapter

..are they equivalent / better than U160 ?

..are they 64bit (PCI X) or 32 ? will both work?

(the site seems to indicate they are discontinued)

thanx.
