Just got the a new aluminum keyboard and installed the latest firmware update. However, when I have the option checked to use the function keys as function keys, and use option-Fwhatever to access the built-in functions, the built-in functions are recognized. All I get is an error noise.

Is this an issue, or am I doing something stupid?

It's a little tricky, but I think I know what your problem is (because I was confused by it to). With that keyboard option checked, the built-in functions are accessed by the fn key, which is below the F13 key.

Maybe use the fn key instead of the option key? Not sure I'm reading this right.

edit: day late, dollar short!

Yep. I realized the issue was PEBKAC, which is why edited the post.
