External LCD Monitor and MacBook Pro - Bad Experience

Hi,
I have an LG 22" LCD (W2252TQ) attached to my MacBook Pro. And it is a horrible experience. It buzzes if the brightness is not at 100%. The colors are not like they are on the MacBook Pro LCD.
I am getting the LCD replaced for the 2nd time (the first time was because of a slightly different experience).
I am beginning to wonder if my MacBook Pro just doesn't play well with this particular model of LCD display. I have it connected via the VGA-DVI adapter. Could that be causing my problem? If I go straight to DVI, will it be better?
Anyone have any recommended settings for an LCD monitor (gamma, color, etc.)?

Straight to DVI would almost certainly be better.

The VGA adapter is probably what makes it look bad. But the buzzing is because it's a poor quality monitor.

I'm surprised at this - I use a vga adaptor and have never had any problems with it. Are you sure this is the culprit?

It depends a lot on the quality of the A/D hardware in the monitor, but I've never seen an LCD where VGA and DVI looked the same (always better for DVI).

My replacement monitor should be here today and they are sending me an "LG" approved DVI cable with it free of charge. So I will let you know.
All I know is that this buzzing has to stop -- it can be maddening in a quiet room. I need music on to drown it out.
