Hey I got an HP CP1215 colour laser printer for my mom, of course like most HP cheap lasers there are no OS X drivers (apparently Mac users need printers that cost 80 dollars more?) Anyway apparently this driver foo2hp: a linux printer driver for ZJS protocol (e.g. HP Color LaserJet 1600/2600n, CP1215) will work, but for some reason they don't provide a binary of it. I also think their instructions might be a little out dated, but being that I'm not a unixy type I'm not entirely sure.

It would be really great if I could get the printer up and working before the week end. Any help would be very much so appreciated.

Sounds like a pain in the ass. According to the instructions, you have to send a firmware to the printer every time you power it up.

Um, why would you buy a printer knowing there's no official support for your OS?

If she just needs it to print, install the Gutenprint drivers. It's an HP, I'm sure it'll work with the Generic PCL 5e (or maybe 6/XL).

Edit: My bad. How the heck does a company put out a printer that doesn't conform to either PostScript or PCL now-a-days? Even as an entry level printer, there is no way I could recommend that to ANYONE knowing that.

Yah it's fine, I just hope best buy doesn't give me flack about taking it back with the toner pluggy things pulled out... meh the people in customer service probably won't even think to look for that. Turns out Futureshop had a Samsung CPL300 on sale for 150, and it's a NIIICE printer, smaller, the colour looks great, I printed out probably a few hundred posters tonight. Now to blanket the city in them on Sunday

I would not want to buy a printer without postscript anymore.
Besides, I wouldn't want to get an HP, I have owned a lot of their products and I use them at work, but their quality has declined steadily. Their drivers are horrific (don't comply with OS X menu structure and just yesterday, HP Toolbox has occupied one cpu core (technically, it was syslogd which logged problems with HP Toolbox).

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
