I have an HP LaserJet 2015dn printer that appears under "Shared Devices" in the Finder sidebar because it apparently broadcasts its presence via NetBIOS. Very annoying, I can't do anything with it there. Unfortunately, the printer's web configuration pages don't appear to offer a way to turn off NetBIOS. Does anyone know how I can stop the printer from appearing in the Finder sidebar? I guess I could set the Leopard firewall to allow only essential services (then I see that port 137 from the printer is blocked), but that's a little draconian.

Try typing the IP address of the printer into your web browser and see if it comes up with a configuration page. You should then be able to enable/disable NetBIOS. You may or may not be able to do it via the JetDirect I/O menu on the printer, but it differs from printer to printer.

As I wrote above, the printer's web configuration pages don't appear to offer a way to turn off NetBIOS.

The printer doesn't have one.

What about via the JetDirect I/O config menu on the printer?

Causality loop postings.
Um, it's entirely possible that you can't turn it off. If it's not in the TCP/IP advanced settings and you don't have an I/O config menu, I don't know where it is. If you have a managed switch, you could try blocking the port.
