Hello, I have a dual gig g4 that came out when dual gig's came out. I just got final cut studio 2 and so I'm needing to upgrade my system. Right now its only running 512ram so I'm sure I will need more. The only thing is I'm new to all this so I don't know which stuff to get or where?? Im thinking I should add another harddrive and more ram. Any suggestions? Also, I would like a good deal on components but don't want to sacrifice quality either.

OP,
first you should have gone into the mac section, not gen consumer.

Second. go to Mac Specs, Prices, Answers, & More @ EveryMac.com - Established 1996, look your system up and see what it's upper limits are for RAM. Max out the RAM. Hard drives you can add to your heart's content. Get a USB hub and plug away. Build your own on Newegg with a drive enclosure and a 500gb drive or more to start.

Backups are like guns and condoms. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

since it says DDR RAM you have a MDD Power Mac… a good place to look for both is OWC…

RAM that fits your Power Mac… 2 GB max (four 512MB RAM modules)

Memory Upgrades for your Apple PowerMac G4 "Mirrored Drive Doors" 2x1GHz at OtherWorldComputing.com

As for hard drives you can have up to four internal IDE HDs… no size limit,

or you could get a SATA controller to use the newer SATA hard disks,

I second OWC for these purchases.

I have 2 Seagate 120GB drives(size limit on my G4) and 1GB of RAM in my G4. Got the RAM from OWC and the HDs from BestBuy during a sale.

Hey, thanks a million for taking the time to narrow things down for me. I appreciate it. I was browsing through OWC's site and it looks like they have reasonable prices. I also just so happen to see this ebay listing and was wondering if this was junk or not????

Yes, they should work with your MDD. That price is insanely low, whoa.

Yeah, the price is cheap but they still get you for shipping. Still, at $47.50, including, for 1.5MB of ram is still pretty good.
