This is by far the brightest monitor I've ever used, it's lowest setting is still much brighter than my old Samsung on 'text mode'.

Is it supposed to be like this? I haven't calibrated it with a colorimeter but I did go through the OS X system pref pane wizard for it.

All the new iMacs are also very bright.

Calibration is recommended for 120 to 140 foot candles. My 24" iMac just gets to these 140 foot candles at the lowest setting.

There's Shades to dim mac displays even further, but I don't use it, as it's buggy.
