hi
do you think this is a good and reliable hard drive to work with Leopard on MBP:
Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II 1TB Mac
Win Firewire / Firewire 800 USB2 eSATA. I have choose it caz it has Dual-Drive Storage System with RAID 2 TB, Quad Interface .Its for working with big images and .avi files.

Because I dont really understand from hard drives, could you please tell me if this is a good and reliable hard drive?

WD drives don't have the best reputation in reliability when compared to other drives.

How much space do you need, the full 2TB under RAID or 1TB with the backup?

Do you really need the quad interface?

Do you have a strict price range?

RAID1 (mirroring) is not a backup.

I picked up one of these.. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other...g/MEFW924AL2K/ . I put a 1TB hitachi drive in it. I have room to add another when needed. You can check OWC or newegg for other external kits too. I prefer to buy kits and put them together. OWC has a good selection of kits or one already together.

I have one of these.. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firew...b/eliteclassic , for my iMac. Been running flawlessly for over 2 years now.

What do you mean by "with backup"? A backup isn't a device, it's a plan/process.

This 500GB Seagate looks good if you don't want to assemble it yourself.

My first WD 500G failed me after 8 months. Luckily, Costco replaced it (at a better price). I'm hoping the one I'm using now will last much longer than the first one. If not, I'll have to make a switch.
